Head lice need not keep kids from school

LOS ANGELES The American Academy of Pediatrics said an infestation of head lice does not pose enough of a hazard to justify strict policies.

The group is once again urging schools to abandon the "no nits" policy which requires kids to be free of nits before returning to school.

Nits are the empty casings left behind by lice once eggs hatch.

The report is in the journal of Pediatrics.
