Tow-truck driver strikes toddlers in Oxnard

OXNARD, Calif. The children were then dragged under the truck for about a quarter of a mile.

Police say the truck struck 19-year-old Oxnard resident Alma Lopez in a crosswalk at the intersection of Vineyard Avenue and Simon Way, knocking her to the ground. The truck then continued on, dragging a 3-year-old girl and a 1-year-old boy and their stroller until witnesses chased and flagged down the driver, police said.

Police say the driver, 45-year-old Mehran Khamseh of Oxnard, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

Both children were transported to the /*Ventura County Medical Center*/ with serious injuries. They were listed in critical condition. Alma Lopez was taken to the hospital for moderate injuries.

The incident was under investigation.
