26th Annual Long Beach marathon draws thousands

LONG BEACH, Calif. Nearly 90,000 people were expected to line the streets and cheer on their favorite runners and bikers.

There were about 6,000 participants in this year's race, and nearly twice as many people signed up for the half-marathon, including ABC7's Lisa Hernandez.

The winner of the marathon was able to finish in less than 2 hours and 19 minutes.

Artwork by patients from Miller Children's Hospital were featured along the race route.

Next year's race is expected to have the entire course lined with art and performance experiences.

The /*Long Beach*/ Marathon was first held in 1982. The race was disbanded in 1996 because of financial problems, then revived in 1999 under new management.
