3 health insurers delay Calif. rate hikes

SACRAMENTO, Calif.

Anthem Blue Cross, Aetna and PacifiCare agreed Thursday to delay their rate increases for 60 days, so the state Department of Insurance can review them.

Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones said he will use the time to make sure the rate hikes are in compliance with state and federal laws.

Aetna and Anthem Blue Cross each had submitted two proposed rate increases, beginning Jan. 1 and April 1. Each will be delayed 60 days from those dates. PacifiCare's planned Jan. 1 increase will be delayed until April 1, the department said.

Blue Shield has not delayed its increases, but has submitted them for an independent review.
