Punxsutawney Phil predicts early spring

February 2, 2011 12:00:00 AM PST
Punxsutawney Phil, the famous groundhog, predicted on Groundhog Day that spring will come a little early this year.

The groundhog's handlers woke him up and pulled him from his burrow early Wednesday morning.

They placed him on his stump, where he did not see his shadow. If he had seen it, it would have meant six more weeks of winter.

The crowd braved the bitter cold to watch the groundhog make his prediction. This is the 125th year for the Pennsylvania tradition.
