Elizabeth Taylor hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai

LOS ANGELES

The /*Oscar*/ winner is hospitalized in Los Angeles. Taylor is being treated at /*Cedars-Sinai Medical Center*/ after suffering symptoms of congestive heart failure.

Friday her publicists confirmed the 78-year-old actress's hospitalization, saying her congestive heart failure has been an on-going condition. It's being addressed and monitored with Taylor now hospitalized.

Her spokespeople add that Taylor's family and close friends are appreciative of the warm support and interest of fans. However they're asking for her privacy to be respected, as well as to allow her medical team time and space to focus on restoring her back to health.

Dr. Lawrence O'Connor is an interventional cardiologist at Glendale Memorial Heart Center, and although he is not treating Taylor, he is an expert in this kind of medicine. He said Taylor is likely on bed rest and sitting partially upright to help breathe easier.

O'Connor also speculated that she's probably been put on oxygen, as well as a diuretic to extract fluids out of her lungs.

Taylor's publicity team said it is unknown how long she might be hospitalized.
