Ohio man charged with killing woman in basement

BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio The couple, 84-year-old Richard Russell and his 85-year-old wife, Gladis, sold Sam Littleton a home in 2009 - the same home where investigators found the body of Tiffany Brown on Wednesday night. Bellefontaine police Chief Brad Kunze said Friday he was concerned for the couple's well-being.

Prosecutors charged the 37-year-old Littleton on Friday with murder, felonious assault, abuse of corpse and tampering with evidence in Brown's death. He was last seen Wednesday morning.

Last week, Brown dropped her young children off at her neighbor's home in Bellefontaine, a town about 50 miles northwest of Columbus. She told her neighbor she would be gone only an hour to run errands, but she never returned.

Police searched Littleton's house Wednesday night after finding blood in the unfinished basement and then discovered Brown's body in a pile of scrap wood, Kunze said. She had several stab wounds, he said.

It's not yet clear when Brown was killed, but she most likely died in the house, Kunze said.

Brown's mother, who reported her daughter missing last Saturday, is not a suspect, police have said.

Police said they found Littleton's truck about 2 miles from the Russells' home outside the town of Bellefontaine. The Russells' neighbors told The Columbus Dispatch that the couple didn't drive at night and never left home for long periods without letting them know.

Authorities said the Russells' car was last seen at a rest stop along southbound Interstate 75 just north of Cincinnati on Wednesday night.
