Good samaritan drives 700 miles to return car

NEWARK, Ohio

Lorraine Tichenor and her husband both suffered strokes and depended on their 1998 Oldsmobile to get to doctor's visits. Several weeks ago, a man stole the car.

Police located it, hundreds of miles away. But because of her health, Lorraine wasn't able to get it. That's when a total stranger stepped in to help.

Carl Schafer heard the story and jumped into action. First driving 700 miles to Kansas City to get the car, then paying to get it out of impound, and then driving 700 miles back to Ohio to hand the car over to Lorraine.

"To see her face when we brought that car back, it was all worth it," said Schafer.

"I just sat there and cried<" said Tichenor. "I just stared. I walked out the door, and I couldn't move."

Lorraine said she's so grateful, and can't wait to take the car for a spin.
