Long Beach fire captain charged with DUI, hit-and-run

SEAL BEACH, Calif.

Prosecutors said 38 year-old John Hines' blood alcohol level was .24 percent, three times the legal limit, at the time of the crash April 1.

He's accused of hitting 47-year-old bicyclist Jeffrey Gordon on Westminster Avenue in Seal Beach, then fleeing the scene. Gordon was thrown from his bike and suffered severe injuries.

If convicted, Hines faces a maximum sentence of six years and eight months in state prison.
