May 1, 2011 12:00:00 AM PDT
Nearly 150 people gathered in the Florida Keys to showcase their pucker prowess with the conch shell.

A group of 142 people set a new world record for the most people simultaneously blowing a conch shell.

They surpassed a record set in 2009, but their turnout was yet to be certified.

The conch shell is a symbol of the Florida Keys. Blowing it has been a tradition since the early 1800s, when settlers used it as a maritime signaling device.
