Armed suspect robs Seal Beach Ralphs, escapes

Police are searching for a suspect who robbed a Ralphs grocery store at gunpoint Saturday night.

Seal Beach Police received a report at approximately 10:25 p.m. of an armed robbery from an employee calling from a cellphone at the store, located at 12470 Seal Beach Rd. The caller advised police the suspect was inside the location.

Officers responded and arrived at the location two minutes later, but the suspect had fled.

Officers from the Seal Beach, Los Alamitos and Cypress police departments used police dogs and a helicopter to search the area, which included the Old Ranch Country Club. They did not locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian or Hispanic male in his early 20s, standing about 5 feet 3 inches tall, with a skinny build. He was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and dark-colored jeans. A black semiautomatic handgun was used in the robbery.

The amount of cash stolen was not revealed.

No surveillance video images were available.
