Stolen gun recovered from Ventura fight scene

VENTURA, Calif.

A records check showed the gun was stolen from the Los Angeles area.

Ventura police received reports of gunshots fired in the area of Ventura Avenue and Flint Street at shortly after 2 a.m. As officers were headed in that direction, 911 dispatchers advised them of a possible shooting victim in the area.

Neighboring residents told responding officers that a fight had broken out and someone involved in the fight was firing a handgun.

However, a two-hour search of the area including several nearby homes turned up nothing - no victim, no gunman. The only piece of evidence authorities retrieved was a stolen handgun.

If you have any information regarding this case, you're urged to contact the Ventura Police Department.
