Honduras mimes try to make streets safer

July 6, 2011 12:00:00 AM PDT
Pedestrians have the right-of-way in California, but that's not the case in Honduras.

So mimes are stepping in to help make the streets safer.

Officials say there is an obscene lack of compliance with traffic laws, and more than 600 people die each year in accidents.

The mimes felt that if they shamed drivers into following the law, pedestrians would have a better survival rate.

It should be noted that the mimes have no legal authority and are typically ignored as much as the pedestrians.
