Winehouse family says she died from alcohol withdrawal

July 29, 2011 12:00:00 AM PDT
Amy Winehouse's family members say the 27-year-old British singer died of acute alcohol withdrawal.

According to the British tabloid The Sun, Winehouse's doctor allegedly told her to gradually stop drinking. Winehouse's family claims she quit cold turkey weeks before her death.

Official autopsy reports revealed nothing conclusive.

The coroner is waiting on toxicology tests, which could take weeks.

Meantime, no decision has been made on whether to release a trove of music Winehouse apparently left behind.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
