Caught on tape: Antelope bashes cyclist

October 11, 2011 12:00:00 AM PDT
A 17-year-old South African was in a mountain bike race when an antelope came out of nowhere, knocked him to the ground and kept on going.

Evan van der Spuy was unconscious for awhile, and then he got up. He was treated for whiplash and a concussion.

Video of the incident was shot by a camera attached to his teammate's bike.

"I'm trying to make sense of it myself. Every time I look at [the video], it's one big shock," said Van der Spuy.

His helmet was nearly split apart by the impact and probably saved his life.

The antelope later was spotted grazing in a nearby field.
