Oxnard police chase drunk hit-and-run driver

OXNARD, Calif.

Officials said the driver was involved in three separate collisions along Rose Avenue. When they tried to stop him, he led them on a pursuit.

The chase ended when the driver, 45-year-old Servando Mendez, lost control and crashed into another vehicle near the intersection of Auto Center Drive and Paseo Mercado.

Mendez was taken into custody without further incident. His blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit, police said.

Mendez was booked on felony drunk driving, three counts of misdemeanor hit-and-run and felony evading of a police officer with willful disregard for the safety of others.

His bail was set at $50,000.
