A new report says the eucalyptus grove where a falling tree killed a driver in Orange County was infested with beetles and termites.

Some 100 blue gum eucalyptus trees in a median that separates the cities of Newport Beach and Costa Mesa were removed following the death of a Tustin woman, who was killed when one of the trees fell on top of her car.

Public records obtained by The Daily Pilot also say that the contractor responsible for the Costa Mesa trees knew about the infestation.

The records aren't clear whether the tree that fell and killed the driver was infested, and the contractor did say the tree was safe to stand.
