The International Space Station and crew encountered a close call Wednesday morning after a small piece of space junk nearly collided with the space station.

NASA said a 4-inch chunk of a destroyed Chinese weather satellite zoomed by just before 2 a.m. PT.

NASA warned the crew to prepare for an emergency impact and possibly take shelter, but the space junk missed the space station.

The small piece was traveling fast enough to cause serious damage.
