Teacher aide's daughter found naked searching for food on street

A teacher's aide at a Temecula elementary school is facing child endangerment charges. Her 12-year-old daughter was discovered walking around a neighborhood, naked, in desperate need of food.

"She was completely naked with no shoes or socks or nothing, and she was holding a floor mat of her car to cover the front portion of her body," said Dominique Prado, an eyewitness.

Prado didn't want to appear on camera. She says it was Thursday when she and her husband saw a girl digging through trash cans looking for food. They called police and found the girl not long after hiding in a car parked just down the street.

"When we had seen her in the car she was scared, you could tell she was really scared, she's only 12 years old, it was really sad," said Prado.

But if what they had just seen wasn't shocking enough, then came news an hour later that police had arrested the girl's mother, a teacher's aide at Vail Elementary School just around the corner. The suspect was identified as Tracy Betts.

"They said I guess the girl was being held captive by her mother and she kept her naked so she wouldn't go anywhere, but she was so hungry she was running up and down the street naked looking for food," said Prado.
