Mourners pay respects to Long Beach girl

LONG BEACH, Calif.

Joanna Ramos, 10, died last week of blunt force trauma to the head. Police are calling it a homicide, but have yet to make any arrests.

Ramos was mourned at Hollywood Forever, where she will be buried Sunday in a public, 3 p.m. graveside ceremony.

"She's in a better place and that's what makes me happy," said the victim's older sister, Diana Ramos.

Her mother, Cecilia Villanueva, said the girl came home after the planned fight and was nauseous and vomiting. She told her mother she had been punched in the head, then fell unconscious. Friends said the fight was over a boy.

"She was a sweet girl," Villanueva said. "She always shared her stuff with other people. She was a good girl."

Villanueva said she was touched and thankful for all the support the family has received.
