Youngest in class most likely to be diagnosed with ADHD

If your child is one of the youngest in the class, a new report shows he or she is more likely to be diagnosed with a behavioral disorder and more likely to be prescribed drugs for it.

University of British Columbia scientists find younger children in the same grade as children who may be almost a year older may appear to be immature compared with their older peers.

As a result, these younger kids are more likely to be diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

This relative age effect also influences both academic and athletic performance.
