A state convict who was accidentally released from the Los Angeles County Jail is back in custody.

Larry Howard, 21, was returned to Wasco State Prison on Friday. He was in the county facility waiting for a court appearance, when sheriff's officials let him go by mistake on Tuesday despite an active hold in place by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Howard is serving a two-year sentence for first-degree burglary. He is up for parole in November.
