Rescue crews help Boy Scouts hiking near Lake Arrowhead in hot weather

LAKE ARROWHEAD, Calif.

The nine boys and their four adult leaders were on a 10-mile hike on Saturday when some of the boys became too tired to make it all the way down.

So rescue crews headed in to help. However, finding them wasn't so easy.

"Initially it was quite difficult because we weren't sure of their position, but the scouts did a great job. They were able to give us GPS coordinates along with a bearing using their compass and we were able to get an area of their location," said Steve Tracy with the San Bernardino City Fire Department.

Rescue crews hoisted one scout and two adult leaders to safety, but the remaining members of the group were OK.
