Entangled whale rescued near San Onofre finally spotted off central coast

GORDA, Calif.

Rescue crews had spent hours trying to remove the 50 to 100 feet of fishing line from the whale's fin and mouth on April 17 before suspending the operation for the night. But the next day, the whale could not be found.

The big whale was spotted on Tuesday swimming near Gorda, which is between Santa Maria and Santa Cruz. The whale is still towing some buoy markers.

When the weather clears, marine biologists say they will try to clear them.
