The driver claims he was shot near 130th Street and Compton Avenue Wednesday night just before he smashed into a retaining wall next to a house.
He was not seriously injured and paramedics treated him at the scene.
Sheriff's deputies have a slightly different story. They say there is no evidence of a shooting and the crash is being treated as just an accident.
No arrests have been made.
