Bus bursts into flames in San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.

The bus was shuttling participants from the Tough Mudder competition in Snow Valley down Highway 330 when the trouble started. The driver said she was on her last run of the day at about 6:30 p.m. when she heard a loud noise that sounded like a tire blowout.

"I shut the bus down, turned into the cut to check on it, and then I saw my inner dual tire had blown out, and then I saw a little fire, so I evacuated the bus," said driver Faye Smitheal.

An empty bus was heading back up the mountain, so all of the passengers were able to board that bus and leave before their original bus became engulfed in flames.
