Indianapolis explosion levels homes; 2 dead

November 11, 2012 12:00:00 AM PST
Two people were killed and hundreds were displaced following an explosion that leveled two homes and lit two others ablaze in Indianapolis, Ind.

Seven people were transported to a hospital with injuries after the explosion and resulting fire, fire officials said. Firefighters put out the flames and went through the rubble and nearly three dozen damaged homes. That's when they found two bodies.

Witnesses told various media outlets that they heard people screaming for help after the explosion and fire.

Fire officials say there may be more fatalities. Residents scattered after the explosion, so officials don't know how many people they are looking for.

The blast was heard for miles around. Authorities said they had no immediate information on the cause. The fire department and other agencies were investigating.
