Simi Valley police warn of rental scheme

SIMI VALLEY, Calif.

Police say victims were using websites to search for rental properties to lease in the San Fernando Valley. Victims would call the listed telephone number and speak with someone who claimed to be with ABM Property Management in Simi Valley.

The suspect asks victims to fill out a credit application, which includes their social security number, and then they are asked to send funds for the application fee, deposit and first month's rent using "Reload it Pack," which is a prepaid card that can be purchased at grocery stores.

Police have determined that ABM Property Management is a reputable company, but the suspects are using the company name to trick people.

Police say they have been contacted by several citizens regarding the scheme. Anyone with information regarding the scheme is urged to call police at (805) 583-6956.
