$25K reward offered for Sylmar arsons info

SYLMAR, LOS ANGELES

Los Angeles Fire Dept. officials said 16 arson fires have been reported in a one-square-mile area in a residential Sylmar neighborhood since November. The latest was on March 17.

The fires were started late at night or very early in the morning. The fires have burned trees in an area near San Fernando Road and Polk Street. The fires spread to vehicles and burned one fence attached to a house.

"We are very fortunate that nobody has died (or) been very serious injured, but frankly that is a fluke given the number of fires," according to Councilman Richard Alarcon, who introduced the motion.

The reward will be in effect for the next six months and offered for information leading to the identification, capture and conviction of the person or people responsible for the fires.

Anyone with information about the arson fires should call the Los Angeles Fire Department Arson/Counter-Terrorism Section at (213) 893-9850.
