Ex-boyfriend caught in Sylmar hit-and-run

SYLMAR, LOS ANGELES

Authorities responded to the 11500 block of Hunnewell Avenue at about 11 p.m. and found two 17-year-old females who had been struck by a vehicle. Both victims were rushed to a local hospital in serious but stable condition.

Investigators say there was an altercation between 18-year-old Miguel Angel Jimenez of Sylmar, his ex-girlfriend and his current girlfriend. The altercation got into the streets, and Jimenez struck both girls with a vehicle.

"Another girl got off the car and tried to fight with my sister. She got my sister from the hair, and my sister started fighting with her as well," said Karina Sandoval, sister of one of the victims. "After that, the guy just came and ran both of them over."

Jimenez may have been assaulted during the altercation before the hit-and-run, police say.

"We are focusing on the criminal aspect of it, where the driver apparently was assaulted and also later on, that same driver left the scene of a traffic collision," said LAPD Detective William Bustos. "We want to know from that driver his side of the story as to what occurred."

Jimenez fled the scene in a silver 2007 Dodge Charger. On Wednesday afternoon, Jimenez surrendered, and his car was impounded. He was booked for felony hit-and-run and is being held on $50,000 bail.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call the LAPD at (877) LAPD-24-7.
