Reseda shooting: 1 dead, 1 injured; suspect arrested

RESEDA, LOS ANGELES

The Los Angeles Police Department said they received a report of a shooting just before 7 p.m. on the 7200 block of Canby Avenue.

According to investigators, the shooting happened inside the apartment building where the suspect lives. He fired many times in multiple directions, striking two people. One victim was hit in the head, the other in the torso.

One victim died and the other was hospitalized, according to the LAPD.

When LAPD officers arrived, the suspect was shirtless and covered in blood. He charged at officers with his hands up. Officers tackled him, but the suspect fought back until they restrained him. Officers used a Taser on the man. He was put on a gurney and transported to a hospital.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Police believe he may have been mentally impaired. Witnesses told Eyewitness News that the suspect was shouting random comments.

"I heard him saying Hitler, Obama, and...terrorists and cops just got all over him. He was just fighting the whole way," said witness Erik Correa.

The public was asked to avoid Canby Avenue between Valerio Street and Sherman Way due to the investigation.
