FONTANA, Calif. (KABC) -- The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and NASCAR XFINITY Series heads to Auto Club Speedway in Fontana this weekend. NASCAR's annual stop in Southern California allows fans to get close their favorite cars and drivers.
In some cases, the drivers get to give something back. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Aric Almirola teamed up with Operation Homefront to surprise local veteran Marine Corps Corporal Chloe Mondesir with one year of free groceries from Albertsons.
"To be able to come out here and have them as guests of ours at the racetrack this weekend, and for Albertsons to give them free groceries for a year, is just a real honor," Almirola said.
NASCAR's event at Auto Club Speedway not only brings excitement to the Inland Empire, but it also brings huge economic benefits.
"This event, obviously, is the largest sporting event in the region so it does a tremendous amount for the hotels and restaurants and gas stations," said Auto Club Speedway President Dave Allen.
