BALDWIN PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- A deadly shooting sparked an hours-long standoff situation with sheriff's deputies in Baldwin Park.
A 37-year-old man was found shot to death on the front lawn of his mother's home in the 3800 block of Cosbey Street around 8:20 p.m. Monday. He was not immediately identified by officials.
The man's mother was seen speaking with investigators. Her husband consoled her as she was overcome with grief.
The shooting death spawned a SWAT standoff just around the corner at a home in the 13200 block of Earl Avenue. Investigators said they had reason to believe that home and the people inside may have been connected to the Cosbey Street shooting.
Sheriff's officials served a search warrant at the location, and several people were detained. They were questioned by investigators, but they were not considered suspects and were not arrested.
A search is underway for two male suspects who were spotted running from the scene. The suspects were only described as Hispanic males. They were seen running northbound on Earl Avenue from Cosbey Street toward Ramona Boulevard.
The motive behind the fatal shooting remains under investigation. It's unclear if the incident was gang-related.
Meantime, about two dozen area residents were stuck outside or in their cars, unable to get home all night. The scene has since been cleared and residents were allowed access to their homes.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau is assisting the Baldwin Park Police Department with the investigation.
