BALDWIN PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- An argument led to a shooting that left a man fatally shot Sunday evening outside a Baldwin Park restaurant, authorities said.

The verbal altercation between two men occurred at about 11:11 p.m. in an establishment in the 13300 block of Ramona Boulevard, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

After both individuals exited the building, one of them retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and shot the other man several times in his upper torso, the news release said.

The gunman then fled the scene in a dark-colored sedan driven by another person, investigators said. Both suspects were detained in the vehicle "a short distance" from the restaurant, pending a murder investigation.

The wounded man was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the statement. His name was not immediately released.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
