BOYLE HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An investigation is underway after a homicide suspect was shot to death by police in Boyle Heights.

It all started with a fatal shooting at 4th and Soto streets, where a man was gunned down in the middle of the road. LAPD officers said they spotted a suspect fleeing the scene and a short foot pursuit ensued.

The chase ended near 4th and Mathews streets, where a confrontation led to an officer-involved shooting. The suspect was shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

It's unclear how many officers fired their weapons. A weapon was recovered from the scene, according to investigators.

No officers were injured. Both shootings were under investigation.
