Stow trial jurors tell judge they're deadlocked; judge orders further deliberations

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Jurors remain deadlocked after a fifth day of deliberations in the Bryan Stow civil trial against the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and former owner Frank McCourt.

Stow was attacked and beaten in a Dodger Stadium parking lot on opening day in 2011. He suffered permanent brain damage from the attack.

The lawsuit claims there was inadequate security the night of the attack.

After deliberating for five days, the jury told the judge it is at an impasse. But the judge has ordered them to keep working.

The foreperson asked the judge Wednesday if the jury could discuss damages without answering the first question: Were the Dodgers and McCourt negligent?

The judge told jurors that they can discuss any of the nine questions on the verdict form in any order but they have to vote following the verdict form.

If jurors find that the defendants were not negligent, then they are finished. The rest of the questions proceed from whether they are found negligent.

The judge ordered the jury to resume deliberations at 9 a.m. Thursday.
