CYPRESS PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An arrest was made in connection with the death of a person whose burned remains were found Thursday in a Home Depot parking lot in the Cypress Park area of Los Angeles, detectives confirmed Monday.

Robbery homicide detectives arrested 56-year-old Valentino Gutierrez in the murder, authorities said.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded to reports of a rubbish fire shortly after 1:30 a.m. in the 2000 block of Figueroa Street on Thursday. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered human remains and a large drum on fire.

Police were investigating after a burned body was discovered in a Home Depot parking lot in the Cypress Park area of Los Angeles Thursday morning.

The identity of the victim was not released. Investigators had been looking into whether the victim may have been a homeless person due to debris or possible belongings found near the body.

Gutierrez was being held in lieu of $2 million bail with an initial court appearance scheduled for Tuesday.
