SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif. (KABC) -- A piece of Southern California history is up for sale, but it was once a flourishing operation.

The Norwalk Dairy, which is actually located in Santa Fe Springs, dates back to the early 1950s. In the 1970s, the grounds were covered with milk-producing cows.

"At our peak, we were probably milking around 250 cows. We were probably making about 1,400 or 1,500 gallons a day," said John Vanderham, whose father still owns the 10-acre spread.

The Norwalk Dairy was also a popular spot for school field trips, especially for kids who had never been to a working dairy farm.

"I think that's the biggest loss, the kids not being able to see the animals, not to learn about the animals," Vanderham said.

Now, the dairy is just a shell of what it once was. A sign out front says it's closed.

Vanderham says family members got rid of all the cows except for one six years ago, hoping to sell the dairy farm. But the deal fell through and the dairy shut down.

So will the Norwalk Dairy ever become a working dairy again? Vanderham has his fingers crossed.

"I'd like to see Mark Cuban or somebody to come in and buy it, fix it back up," Vanderham said.

For $15 million, buyers can get another chance to milk a little more history from the dying dairy.
