A British design company is applying a care-free and childlike idea to the workplace, transforming their office into a giant ball pit for employees to play in.
The Pearlfisher design team gather in the child's playground-like break room daily to brain storm with each other, unwind, and clear their minds in a low pressure environment filled with 81,000 plastic balls.
"What this space really does is help create a playful environment, which then helps foster the creative process," said Pearlfisher's Senior Creative Strategist Jack Hart. "It's about embracing a childlike mindset, and for me, letting off some steam."
Hart said that the company briefly opened the ball pit for open to the public to join in on the play as well.
"I think this is a completely non goal orientated environment. I think the worse thing businesses can do is often say this is going to be the outcome, this is how much revenue it's going to generate," Hart explained. "It's about getting away from those targets and goals, and I think what that does mean is that you come away being more productive, more refreshed, more connected and more energized."
High concept work environments like these are not unlike other tactics used by Google or Pixar to foster creativity and conversation between employees, and has been a growing trend within the creative industry for over 20 years.
