California snowpack above normal, experts say

Thanks to a series of powerful snowstorms, the snowpack in the Sierra Nevada is higher than average for the beginning of the winter season.

According to the National Weather Service, the snowpack is 11 percent above average statewide.

It has been two years since California has seen it at such a level, however, experts warn snowpack doesn't reach its peak until April 1.

In a typical year, that snow provides the state with about 1/3 of its water supply.
