DURBAN, South Africa -- A car smashed through the roof of a house in South Africa Thursday, in a bizarre accident that did not result in any injuries, but has raised plenty of questions.

A spokesperson for ER24, the private emergency medical service that responded to the crash, told ABC that the paramedics are still trying to sort out how exactly it happened based on the driver's and witnesses' accounts.

"All that we know is that the driver said he went over some sort of 'ramp' and ended up in the air before crashing into the house," communications manager Vermaak Werner said. "The paramedics on the scene did explain that the road has a downwards slope, but a person would have needed a lot of speed to become airborne."

Witnesses said they saw the vehicle take off from the road, according to ER24's blog.

Not only was the driver OK, but so was the person in the house. Someone sleeping in the room next to the crash was woken up but made it out without injuries, ER24 reports.

The spokesperson said this is quite unusual compared to a car driving through the walls of a building.

"Emergency services from ER24 and the local fire department were quite baffled," Vermaak said. "It is not always you see a vehicle going straight down into a roof."
