CHINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A woman was critically injured after a suspect opened fire outside a skating rink in Chino early Monday, police said.
The incident occurred in the parking lot of Skate Express in the 12300 block of Central Avenue at about 12:30 a.m.
Several people were stuck at the scene for hours as police investigated and helicopters hovered overhead.
"Through interviewing numerous witnesses, there was two suspects involved. One of them fired multiple shots, striking the victim, and then the suspects fled, running southbound through the parking lot over to Columbus Avenue," Chino police Lt. Kevin Mensen said.
Skate Express employee Michael Harvey waited with the shooting victim until paramedics arrived.
"She was already on the pavement. I went over and checked on her, and just tried to keep the people back from crowding her too much," Harvey said.
A description of the two male suspects was not immediately released, but they are said to be in their 20s. The victim is expected to survive.
The motive for the shooting remains unknown. Anyone with further information was urged to contact the Chino Police Department.
