WHITTIER, Calif. (KABC) -- Our ABC7 Cool Kid for Thursday, Nov. 13, is Analaura Amezquita, who is doing her part to make the world a healthier place.

The 15-year-old volunteer works with Healthy Picks, a corner store conversion program that aims to get stores to highlight better food choices for families. The program is put on in conjunction with Activate Whittier.

Activate Whittier is an organization that promotes healthy living in the community, explains Amezquita.

"There are a lot of different organizations that came together because of the high obesity rates in Whittier," Amezquita said. "Compared to Cerritos and La Mirada, Whittier is the highest in obesity rates."

In addition to working with store owners and encouraging them to sign on to the program, Amezquita also designed the logo for Healthy Picks.

"The Healthy Pick logo, I don't know if you've noticed, but it's like a world. My idea was to make a worldwide change with exercise, that's why there's a bicycle, and fruits and vegetables, the carrots and apples," Amezquita said.

The Whittier High School freshman has impressed many with what she brings to the cause.

"She has a positive look on life, and she also believes that individuals can make a change," said Penny Lopez, a project manager with Activate Whittier.

Amezquita is a Cool Kid who is certainly one of those individuals working for change and a healthier life for so many.
