YORBA LINDA, Calif. (KABC) -- Our ABC7 Cool Kid for Thursday, March 3, is Krystal Negri, who volunteers to plan activities for kids and seniors and devotes time to keeping her community's parks clean.
Negri knows it's a great feeling to help others, but the impact goes far beyond that.
"I really like helping the community, not only because it's a 'me thing,' it's just that it affects so many people," she said.
One of the ways she affects so many people is through her volunteer work with the Teen Action Committee in Yorba Linda. She said they host events for the city such as dances and senior health fairs.
But Negri's efforts go beyond helping seniors as her group also plans activities to help children and the homeless. And even with all of that going on, Negri's group also makes sure the park is kept clean.
"Krystal's attitude when we get out there and do that type of thing is what really makes her stand out to me," said John Powers, a recreation specialist. "I've never seen someone in that age group so excited to be making a difference and giving back."
Her passion for helping appears to influence her career plans as well.
"I want to be an environmental lawyer," she said. "I know it's not the top paying, but I think it's more of the moral aspect to it."
Whether it's her work with children and seniors or her efforts in caring for the planet, Negri is a cool kid for doing as much as she can to make her community a better place.
