6.3-magnitude earthquake strikes near Japan

TOKYO (KABC) -- A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck near Japan on Thursday, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The USGS reported the earthquake hit about 138 miles southeast of Tokyo at 5:14 p.m. PST.

No immediate tsunami warnings were issued.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said the earthquake may cause slight changes in coastal sea levels, but not enough to cause any damage.

The earthquake caused minor shaking in the Tokyo region, though many said they didn't feel it.

An earthquake hit the country back in April of this year and killed several people while injuring hundreds.
