LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Los Angeles Unified School District has kicked off its annual "Summer of Learning," and this year, it's expanding the program to help immigrant families.
Superintendent Alberto Carvalho says a lot of families are concerned about continued ICE activity, so the district is offering them the option of attending summer school virtually. So far, about 1,900 students district-wide are doing just that.
All together, about 90,000 students are enrolled this summer.
The district is also offering every child in the community, not just LAUSD students, to pick up three free meals a day from participating schools.
