Deputies hand out sketch of killer in La Verne double murder

LA VERNE, Calif. (KABC) -- Detectives hit the streets on Friday armed with fliers in hopes of finding the person who killed an elderly couple.

Shirley Isom, 74, and Armie Isom, 89, were found dead at their mansion the day after Christmas in La Verne.

Authorities are handing out the sketch near the couple's home and to passengers on the San Bernardino Metrolink line.

One car after the next was stopped by deputies, and each driver was asked the same questions and shown the same sketch. It's an image of the man deputies believe brutally killed an elderly La Verne couple.

"We picked this particular location because this is one of the last known areas that we knew him to travel on foot," said Lt. Dave Coleman of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators say the elderly couple was beaten and stabbed to death, and weeks later, they still aren't sure why.

The suspect is believed to be Hispanic in his 20s or 30s, about 5 foot 7, and was last seen walking toward the 210 Freeway with a backpack or a duffel bag.

Deputies are hoping that showing residents the sketch may jog some memories -- anything that gives them some fresh clues to the killer.
