Orange County youth football players devastated by burglary

BUENA PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- Some young football players in Orange County are devastated after thieves broke into a storage unit and stole thousands of dollars in equipment and clothing.

The storage container held equipment for the Fullerton Bears Jr. All-American Football and Cheer League, which serves kids from throughout northern Orange County.

Among the stolen items were footballs, flags, coaches' gear, pads, a speaker system and generator.

The team estimates the loss at more than $20,000, or about a year's worth of fundraising.

"I get emotional because we put in a lot of time and effort into raising money for these kids and they just took from our kids," said parent Melo Greenfield.

The storage container was located outside Buena Park High School.

This is the third break-in the group has suffered in three months, Greenfield said. In March, someone broke into the side of the container and stole about $10,000 worth of equipment and clothing. More than a month ago someone stole a speaker system from a trailer at a Fullerton storage facility.

"I'm pretty mad cause it's all of the equipment we use," said Bears player Davon Fuller.

For anyone who wants to help the Fullerton Bears, they can be reached on their website, by email at or by phone at (714)488-8888.

The team has also established a GoFundMe page for donations.
