Man dies after climbing transformer, catching fire in Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. (KABC) -- One man died of severe burn injuries after climbing a transformer and subsequently catching fire in Fullerton Saturday afternoon.



Fullerton police said the man climbed onto the electrical pole located near Brookhurst Road and Commonwealth Avenue around 3 p.m. when some sort of explosion occurred.



The flames were out by the time authorities arrived to the scene.



The man was transported to a nearby trauma center in critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries Sunday morning.



Southbound Brookhurst Road at Commonwealth Avenue to southbound Brookhurst Road at Valencia Avenue were temporarily closed, according to Fullerton PD.
