GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (KABC) -- A confirmed case of a person infected with the West Nile virus was reported in Garden Grove.
The Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District also found mosquitoes infected with the virus in 11 mosquito traps set throughout the city.
The district will be posting signs at entryways and other prominent locations at all Garden Grove parks starting Monday. The signs will warn residents that mosquitoes infected with the virus were found in those locations.
Similar actions will be taken in Fullerton, Yorba Linda, La Habra and Anaheim, according to district officials.
The district suggests residents take the following precautions to avoid mosquito bites and possible infection:
- Eliminate any stagnant water around the house
- Make sure all windows and screens are in good condition
- Wear repellents containing DEET, Picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus or IR 3535
- Contact the district to report dead birds or neglected pools
